ABOUT THE PLANT
DMWA's plant has a permitted capacity of 2.5 million gallons per day. Raw water is supplied from the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek. water from the Brandywine enters the plant's intake structure which removes large floating or suspended debris such as tree branches or leaves.
The raw water is them pumped through two rectangular up-flow clarifiers. PAC and a synthetic polymer, which serve as coagulant aids are mixed and added to the raw water before each clarifier. Chlorine is added before and after each clarifier. The clarified water then passes through four rectangular gravity flow multimedia filters. The finished water from the filters is stored in the plant's clear wells. Clean water from the clear wells is pumped into the distribution system and delivered to customers.
